Door Restrictor

Door Restrictor

EVACUATION DETERRENTS Keep passengers safely inside the elevator and meet elevator safety codes. Elevator codes in North America generally require evacuation deterrent devices on elevators. Door restrictors are devices that prevent passengers from opening the elevator doors if the elevator stops between floors. Tragic accidents can occur when passengers attempt to exit the car and leap to the landing. Passengers need to stay in the elevator until trained personnel arrive to remove them safely. Installation of door restrictors improves passenger safety.

MECHANICAL DOOR RESTRICTOR: This heavy-duty door restrictor mounts directly on the elevator car door. It incorporates Otis' patented design, which allows qualified personnel to disengage the restrictor when needed to evacuate trapped passengers.

COLLAPSIBLE DOOR RESTRICTOR:  The collapsible door restrictor works in conjunction with a hoistway door angle to deter passengers from exiting the car outside the landing zone. It is designed to replace existing car angles to allow easy access to the car top to perform maintenance or evacuate passengers. Cost-effective on lowrise elevators, the collapsible door restrictor can generally be applied to any elevator.

“HINGED” OR FOLDING DOOR RESTRICTOR:  The hinged door restrictor is highly reliable since there is no actuation of the parts when the elevator is in service. Because there is no actuation, the hinged restrictor is less susceptible to wear, increasing relatability and safety.
